To
Dr. Manmohan Singh
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
Govt of India
New Delhi
Sir,
We are utterly dismayed by the news of Union Home Ministry’s initiative for a tripartite meeting with Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha for resolving the present political problems of Darjeeling.
Repeatedly we had been saying through our representations and publications that no political outfit can claim to be the representative of Indian Gorkhas until and unless the Nepali speaking Indian citizens are segregated from noncitizen
treaty beneficiary migrants of Indo-Nepal Treaty from Nepal to India.
We are constrained to mention that this sort of political parleys without prioritizing the issue shall not only fail to produce any positive result but shall be very much against the country’s interest.
Over and above, the question of citizenship of the ethnic Nepalese in Darjeeling district is at present a subjudice matter in the Kolkata High Court, but shockingly Union Home Ministry did not hesitate to show maximum disregard to the judiciary of the country through the above mentioned
gesture.
We firmly believe that political dialogue is essential to resolve any conflict between people of different interest or opinion. But we can not remain idle spectators to such political parleys which fail to segregate the non citizens of
the country and there by fail to prioritize the issue.
Yours faithfully
